Madeline Dery Named Cross Country Captain at RPI

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Madeline Dery of Putnam Valley 10579 has been named a captain of the women's cross country team for the upcoming 2016 season.

A senior, Dery (Mahopac High School) competed in eight meets as a junior, including the NCAA Division III Championship where she finished 68th overall (22:07.5) and helped the team to a school record ninth place finish. Her top individual finish was fourth at Bates College (18:48.2) and she had a top 10 at the Liberty League Championship - seventh in 22:33.5. The Engineers won the league title and finished fourth in the NCAA Atlantic Regional, in which Dery was 12th (22.23.0). A chemical engineering major, she earned All-Liberty League First Team, All-Region and numerous academic honors, highlighted by CoSIDA National Academic All-America First Team. Dery is a veteran of 21 career meets, having run seven as a freshman and six as a sophomore.
