Christopher Holomakoff Chosen as Captain of Rensselaer Baseball Team

Christopher Holomakoff of Norwalk has been selected as a captain of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team.

A senior catcher, Holomakoff hit .226 (12 for 53), with two doubles, a home run, nine runs and 11 runs batted in last season. He had a .359 on-base percentage and a .321 slugging percentage with seven walks and just five strikeouts. The club leader with seven sacrifice hits, he threw out 31.3% (10 of 32) potential base-stealers. In 61 career games, Holomakoff is a .243 (28 for 115) career hitter, with three doubles, a home run, 17 runs and 23 runs batted in. A graduate of Brien McMahon High School, he has a .360 on-base percentage and a .290 slugging percentage.

"Our captains are all four year starters who have played in big games through out their careers," said head coach Karl Steffen. "They know what RPI baseball is all about, and they know what it takes to perform at a high level."

The Engineers went 29-17 last season, including an 18-6 mark in Liberty League play. They won the league regular season and tournament titles, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The club went 3-2 in the New York Regional, falling to eventual National Champion SUNY Cortland in the regional final.
