Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Christian Kapp of Amawalk 10501 has been recognized by the Liberty League, earning the conference's Special Teams Performer of the Week, it has been announced. This is the first award of the season for the junior kicker, who was recognized once last year.

In Saturday's 31-10 victory at MIT, Kapp (Amawalk, NY / Iona Prep.) was successful on his only field goal attempt, a 32 yard effort that tied the game in the first quarter, and he went 4-for-4 on extra points. He also kicked off six times for 374 yards, a 62.3 yard average, with four touchbacks. The Engineers average drive start on RPI's six kickoffs was their own 24 yard line.

Through the first three games, Kapp leads the team in scoring with 19 points. He has three field goals, including a 47 yarder, in four attempts with 10 point-after-touchdowns. He has also kicked off 15 times with an average of 61.9 yards and five touchbacks.

Last season, Kapp was the team's leader in points with 55. He made 6 of 11 field goals with a long of 40 yards and also made 37 of 38 PATs. He had 56 kickoffs for 3107 yards, averaging 55.5 yards per attempt. He also punted twice. An industrial and management engineering major, Kapp made four of five extra points and had five kickoffs for 268 yards in his first season.

RPI, which improved to 2-1 with its win at MIT, opens Liberty League play on Saturday at home against St. Lawrence University. The game, which begins noon, will be played at East Campus Stadium.
