Bryan Hayes Earns Prestigious Year-End Award

Bryan Hayes of Boylston has earned a prestigious year-end Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) athletic department award - the highest honors bestowed by the department - for the 2014-15 season.

Meg Colitz '14 (lacrosse) and Andrew Franks '15 (football) were selected as the Richard S. Lyon Career Athletes of the Year; Franks and Amanda Lynch '16 (basketball/lacrosse) were chosen as the Athletes of the Year; and Bryan Hayes '18 (track & field/football) and Shanny Lin '18 (swimming) captured Freshman of the Year. Awards are presented to one female and one male in each category. The five standout student-athletes garnered numerous accolades and honors, including multiple National All-America including a fourth place finish at swimming nationals, All-Region and All-Liberty League recognition, a league Performer of the Year, a Capital One National Academic All-America and the first RPI student-athlete to make an NFL roster. Below is information about each of the award winners, who will be presented their plaques at the Rensselaer Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet in October.

Liberty League Champion in 200 ... Second in 4x100 and third in 100 ... Runner-up in 200 and 4x100 at Capital District Meet … Indoor: Only double-winner at Liberty League Championship, winning 200 dash and triple jump … Third in 60-meter dash (three one-hundredths behind winner) … Anchor for 4 x 200-meter relay which set school record multiple times … Liberty League Track Performer of the Meet … Liberty League Track Performer of the Week once … Liberty League Rookie of the Year. Defensive Back … Played 10 games ... Eight tackles ... Seven unassisted ... Three pass breakups.
