Benjamin Fazio Earns Liberty League Weekly Award

The Liberty League weekly awards in men's track & field have been announced and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Benjamin Fazio of East Greenwich has been tabbed.

A junior, Fazio (East Greenwich) has now won the weekly track award five times this season. He earned his latest honor after winning both events he entered. In the 1500 meters, he defeated 25 others with a time of 3:53.50, which was nearly three seconds in front of the runner-up (3:56.27). Fazio then won the 5000 meters by more than seven seconds, outkicking the field of 23 with a time of 14:49.54. The second place finisher crossed in 14:56.60. Fazio has competed in six events this spring and he has won each of them. He has captured three 1500 meter races and ranks 30th in the nation in that event (3:53.50). He is 19th in the 5000 meters, which he has also won three times. His best finish was 14:27.62, which came in the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College in April.
