Anthony Pilla Selected for RPI Football Team Award

Anthony Pilla of Nesquehoning has been chosen for a year-end award from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) after helping the Engineers to a 9-2 overall record, a share of the Liberty League Championship and a victory in the ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl Championship.

A senior defensive end, Pilla (Marian Catholic HS) was named the co-Defensive Player of the Year. He was a captain who started all 11 games, recording 55 tackles with 9.5 sacks (61 yards lost) and 17.5 tackles for lost yards (76). He was first on the team in sacks and tackles for lost yards as well as forced fumbles (2). He also broke up a pass. Pilla ranked second in the Liberty League in tackles for lost yards, sacks and sacks per game (0.86). He was third in tackles for loss per game (1.55) and sixth in forced fumbles per game (0.18) on his way to earning All-Liberty League First Team and a nomination for the Cliff Harris Award, which is presented annually to the top small college defensive football player in the country.
