Alexandra Sakorafos to Captain Rensselaer's Track & Field Team

Alexandra Sakorafos of Brookfield has been chosen as a captain of the track & field team for the second consecutive season.

Sakorafos (Immaculate High School) runs distance events, including 800 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, the mile and 3000 meters. She established three personal bests last season with two coming in outdoor competition. She ran a 2:22.13 in winning the 800 at the Capital District Classic and had a 4:51.67 in the 1500 meters at the Liberty League Championship Meet, finishing fifth. Sakorafos, an industrial and management engineering major, set a personal standard in the 1000 meters at the ECAC Indoor Championship, finishing in a time of 3:03.89. Her best times in the 3000 meters and mile were established in 2014 and 2013, respectively. It was at the 2014 Bowdoin January Invitational when she ran the 3000 in 11:10.3, finishing third, and at the 2013 New York State Indoor Championship when she completed the mile in 5:22.74. Also a member of the cross country team, Sakorafos helped that program to a school record ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championship in the fall. A four-year participant, she captained that squad in 2014.
