Alexandra Kallish Named Performer of the Week

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Alexandra Kallish of Tampa 33606 has been recognized by the Liberty League, earning the conference's Singles Performer of the Week, it has been announced.

In a match at SUNY Geneseo, Kallish (H.B. Plant HS) won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, over a junior, a victory that gave the Engineers a 4-0 lead over the previously unbeaten (6-0) Knights.The freshman was later victorious at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, over a pair of juniors, and RPI eventually went on to defeat Geneseo, 7-2, to improve to 2-0 in dual match competition.

This is the second straight week Kallish has been honored. She was the Rookie of the Week after advancing to the semifinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional. In her final match in that tournament, she forced a third set and fought off six match points, but ultimately lost in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (5). Kallish opened that three-day tournament with a 6-2, 6-1 victory and then she won her second round match, 6-2, 6-1. In the third round, she came from behind to defeat the second seed, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, before a 6-4, 6-2, win in the quarterfinals.

In doubles, Kallish and playing partner Melanie Frank (Durham, CT / Coginchaug Regional) won their first two matches before bowing out in the quarterfinals. They won 8-5 and 9-7 before losing 8-4 to the eventual champions.

While in high school, Kallish played four years of varsity tennis. She was the team captain as a senior after helping the team to the 2013 state championship. The squad was second in 2014 and third in 2016.
